Tracing its origins to the First and Second Law Offices of the Central Cadre School of Political Science and Law, the School of Law was formally established as a department in 1984 when the institution became a full-time university. It was restructured and renamed the School of Law in January 2013, and has since become a leading bastion of legal education for China's public security sector.
In terms of disciplinary development, the School offers 2 undergraduate programs: Law and Public Order Studies (Police Law). The Law program is recognized as a National First-Class Undergraduate Program (Flagship Major). At the graduate level, it hosts master's and doctoral degree programs in Law as a first-level discipline, legal master's degree authorization program, and a postdoctoral research station in Law.
In 2008,it was approved as one of the first National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers for Law by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance. In 2012, it was designated as a “Base for Cultivating Outstanding Legal Talents” and a “Practical Education Base for Legal Studies” by the Ministry of Education.
Regarding the teaching staff, the school boasts nearly 20 national and provincial-level talents, with nearly 60 people serving in various national and provincial academic societies.
In the field of teaching and scientific research, the school houses a portfolio of high-quality courses, including National First-Class Courses (Golden Courses), Beijing Municipal Excellent Courses and Excellent Courses of the Ministry of Public Security. Since 2020, it has secured nearly 20 national-level projects and 43 provincial and ministerial-level research initiatives, and garnered significant teaching and scientific research awards such as the Beijing Municipal Outstanding Achievements Award in Philosophy and Social Science. Additionally, the school has published a number of representative papers in prestigious journals and publications, including China Legal Science, Legal Research and the Theoretical Edition of People's Daily.
In terms of talent cultivation, the school has nurtured a large number of leaders and model figures for public security departments, procuratorates, courts as well as Party and government institutions. Its students have repeatedly achieved excellent results in national, provincial and ministerial-level competitions and published high-quality papers in important journals such as Xinhua Abstracts and Legal Research.
In the aspect of social services, the school has vigorously advanced opening-up in education and conducted in-depth cooperation with practice departments including the Legal Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security. In recent years, its faculty members have participated in the demonstration and consultation work for the formulation and revision of laws and regulations such as the Criminal Procedure Law and the People's Police Law. A total of 83 research reports compiled by the faculty have been adopted by central political and legal authorities, as well as People's Daily Internal Reference and Public Security Internal Reference.
The School of Law shall faithfully fulfill its original aspiration and mission of nurturing talents for the Party, the nation and the public security cause. Seizing the opportunity of the “Double First-Class” Initiative, the School will continuously explore the discipline construction path of “upholding the fundamental nature of law and emphasizing the distinctive features of public security”, and steadily march towards the goal of building a domestically top-tier law school with unwavering political resolve and prominent characteristics.
